"My portraits convey great stories about the human conditions and facial expressions."

Afsar Jan is a passionate fine artist now engrossed in the rich tapestry of artistic inquiry at the National College of Arts in Lahore. He is a native of the captivating landscapes of Chitral in Pakistan. His creative path is evidence of the limitless potential of creation, as he experiments with a wide range of materials and methods to portray the essence of the human spirit and the vibrant life on the streets.

In his artistic journey, he values the adaptability of several mediums, from the finesse of pencil and pencil colour to the depth of printing and the richness of oil paintings. Afsar explores people’s complex facial expressions and feelings with the delicate tip of his pencil, producing portraits that convey a great deal about the human condition. On copper plates, he meticulously etches, aquatint and collagraph printmaking processes to capture the vivid stories of outdoor street life. The streets become his canvas, resonating with tales of tenacity, joy, and daily hustling.

Afsar finds comfort in the expanse of landscapes and the wild beauty of creatures in the realm of oil paints. Each stroke he makes celebrates the peaceful coexistence between people and environment as mountains rise magnificently beneath his brush, rivers flow purposefully, and animals wander free.

He defies size limitations in the miniature world by creating detailed universes in which there are no boundaries to creativity. These miniature worlds act as gateways to wonder and whimsy, enabling viewers to discover stories hidden in even the smallest of elements.

His art engages in a meaningful dialogue with the human spirit and the energetic pulse of the streets. Each piece of art is an invitation to explore the many facets of emotion, to see the tenacity of the human spirit, and to be in awe of the beauty of nature. Come along with him on this creative journey where each brushstroke is a song and each piece is a tale ready to be told,
