Born in 1969 in the picturesque mountain city of Khorog, nestled within the Republic of Tajikistan, Akim Zavqibekov’s journey into the world of arts commenced at a young age. His parents, recognizing his deep admiration for the arts, enrolled him in an art school. At the age of 15, he earned acceptance into the State Art College, graduating with honours owing to his exceptional performance.
Launching his career as an art teacher in a local school in his hometown, Akim’s trajectory took an intriguing turn from 2000 to 2010. During this period, he ventured into health education, assuming roles as an illustrator and graphic designer for the Aga Khan Foundation in Tajikistan. Despite his evolving professional responsibilities, Akim remained dedicated to his artistic passion, participating in diverse regional and republic exhibitions. He also curated personal exhibitions in both Khorog and Dushanbe.
In 2013, a new chapter unfolded as Akim and his family immigrated to Toronto, Canada. Eager to further his skills, he enrolled at Herzing College, which culminated in an honours degree in graphic design in 2014. Subsequently, Akim has actively engaged in community-based exhibitions, showcasing his artistic prowess, including a notable display at the Ismaili Centre, Toronto. His talents reached new heights during the Diamond Jubilee Canada where he gained recognition for his extraordinary abilities, propelling him to the finals of the Jubilee Arts fine arts division.
Parallel to his exhibition successes, Akim assumed the role of an educator, organizing numerous master classes for aspiring painters within the Ismaili community. To this day, he remains wholeheartedly devoted and passionate about his craft, seamlessly blending his artistic pursuits with a commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists.
